Bioengineering is the application of electrical, mechanical, chemical, optical and other engineering principles to understand, modify or control biological (plant and animal – including human) systems, and also to design and manufacture products for monitoring physiological functions, assisting in diagnoses, assessing prognoses and helping in treatment of patients. Thus, it has emerged today as an important aid to diagnosis, therapy and rehabilitation.

A Short Introduction to Biomedical Engineering presents a bird’s eye view of the important components of biomedical engineering for the benefit of undergraduate and postgraduate students.
